Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Playcentre is a family/whanau-led licensed early childhood service and is a co-operative, community based place where play and learning are valued for children and their whanau. There are 12 centres located in the Western Bay of Plenty that provided ECE to children aged 0-6 years.

Entity Structure

Playcentres are managed and governed by parents/whanau of enrolled children. Every parent/whanau is a member of their Playcentre's Committee and decisions are made via consensus. Officers are elected from amongst the committee. Playcentres in the Western Bay of Plenty are members of a regional Playcentre: Western Bay of Plenty Playcentre Association. The Association provides support and guidance to centres and the office-holders are aware of good practice and meet regulatory requirements.
