Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Provide an accredited hospital facility to undertake both ACC and other elective surgical services to its beneficiaries, being the community of Gisborne. The Trust re-invests surplus funds into its land and buildings, plant and equipment, technology and personnel to continue to maintain the highest standard of care and service. The Trust also has scope to apply residual funds to such Charitable purposes as the Trustees see fit, including charitable hospital care/services. The Trust also provides capacity for the public sector to outsource surgical procedures to address waiting lists on a collaborative basis.

Entity Structure

Chelsea is a Charitable Trust, its beneficiaries being the people of Gisborne. Chelsea was one of the first hospitals in NZ to receive Accreditation status and was the first private hospital to be granted 4 years certification by the Ministry of Health. Chelsea holds an ACC elective services contract and a number of Southern Cross Affiliated Provider agreements. It has a strong management team, Headed by a CEO and Board of Trustees, which is well supported by the hospital’s Medical Committee.
