Charitable Purpose

Ferrymead Heritage Park is a much loved attraction for thousands of tourists and locals who visit the park annually. It is based on a township set in the 1920’s. Ferrymead Heritage Park was established in 1965. Visitors get to stroll around the historic streets and view the old world township. There are also a number of museums, collections to view from trains (steam, diesel & electric), trams (steam & electric), aeroplanes, model railway, vintage fire appliances, Post Office and Telegraph, rural history to name a few. There are also workshops restoring vintage forms of transport. The purpose of Ferrymead is to educate the public about aspects of Canterbury's history and to entertain the public. When running, there are unlimited train and tram rides. Ferrymead also has an education programme that specialises in heritage learning. They attract about 5,000 school children annually.
