Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Smedley Foundation exists to preserve and promote the unique character, traditions, and legacy of Smedley, upholding the enduring vision and values established by Josiah Howard more than a century ago. Its core purpose is to support former cadets of the Station by providing scholarships and opportunities that foster business, career, and personal development. The Foundation also aims to work in partnership with the Ex-Cadets Association to strengthen and grow the Smedley alumni network. It is also committed to supporting the wider sheep, beef, and deer industries by profiling scholarship recipients through relevant communication channels—promoting industry success stories and inspiring the next generation of New Zealand farmers. The Foundation welcomes the support of individuals and organizations who share a passion for the future of New Zealand agriculture.
