Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Community Law Waikato is a registered charitable trust providing free legal services including information, advice, assistance, representation and education (eligibility criteria apply) Waikato wide. At the beginning of 2020 we implemented a mainly phone based service aimed at increasing capacity and reducing overhead. We still accommodate face-to-face appointments as necessary as well as delivery of education throughout the region. Our Vision: Fair and Just Communities Our Purpose: To provide free legal help to those in the Waikato who would otherwise not have access. Our Action: We provide advice, advocacy and support through an experienced legal team; and We deliver a range of law related seminars that build legal knowledge and strengthens communities; and We advocate for positive legal and social change to give people a voice. Our Values: Humanity, equity, respect and integrity.

Entity Structure

The Centre is governed by a Trust Board. They bring a wide spectrum of skill and knowledge to lead and support the operation. A General Manager and Legal Services Manager are responsible for overseeing the day to day operation and a team of up to 16 paid employees and an army of on average 100 volunteers.
