Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Based in Dunedin, New Zealand, the Otago School of Piping and Drumming Inc (OSPD) has developed a reputation as an school of excellence in Highland bagpiping and Scottish-style drumming . We have a duty to preserve and promote the Celtic heritage of New Zealand's most Scottish city, Dunedin, the Edinburgh of the South. OSPD embeds passion in the hearts and minds of all its students! Since its inception in 2005, students from all over the world have come to learn traditional Celtic music, passed down from generation to generation. As the only fully independent institution of its kind in New Zealand, OSPD can focus on pipe band or solo musicianship, depending on student preference. Under the direction of the Principal, individuals and pipe bands have regularly placed and won in local, national and international competitions. Instructors at OSPD have been selected for their outstanding abilities as both educators and performers.
