Purpose & Structure


Charitable Purpose

The Ashburton Cadet Unit is a disciplined, well-structured youth development and leadership training group providing male and female teenagers from the age of 13-19yrs with the opportunities to experience a wide range of outdoor activities and develop leadership qualities. The structured training provides a five year program and promotes teamwork, self-reliance, resourcefulness, perseverance and an ethic of community service. The training is developed by using the processes developed by the New Zealand Defence Force which has been modified to be implemented by civilian Cadet Force Officers and undertaken by young and developing adults.
