Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Coastguard Eastern Region’s mission is to be the ‘go to’ people for marine safety, education and search and rescue services. We do this by • Providing management, operational and funding support to 14 Coastguard unit boards and committees in the Eastern Region • Providing training and support to over 500 volunteers who work within our 14 units • Working in the best interests of our units and their volunteers with our national body and liaison with the three other Coastguard regions • We also maintain a Regional Communications Hub (CER RCH) that monitors all VHF Marine Channel within the region 24/7. Supported by our staff and over 40 volunteers.

Entity Structure

Our constitution states that our board shall comprise of five (5) elected members. The Board has the option to appoint up to two (2) additional co-opted members. The elected members must be a member of one of our 14 Coastguard units who are the ‘members’ of Coastguard Eastern Region. The two appointed members are appointed by the elected members. The board has a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson who are elected by board members after the annual general meeting.
