The CSSA has ceased to operate a gallery and performance venue, but we have approx. $2000 in private funds and wish to use these to continue operating the auricle.org.nz website as an archive site, active email lists and other online activities (primarily soundforge.com and bandcamp.com). There is no future arts funding pending, we have fully acquitted the previous CNZ, Rata and CCC funds, and will not be able to meet any accountancy obligations regarding future financial returns as required by charitable status.

    Organisation:

    The Society's gallery audio gear has been given to the University of Canterbury Fine Arts Dept for use in the teaching of sonic arts in Christchurch. These currently account for approx $1200 in assets after depreciation. The CSSA also has approx $2000 in its commercial bank account set aside to pay for hosting fees for its websites, active email lists, soundforge and bandcamp online presence. The Society's public funding accounts are $0.00 with no plans for future arts funding applications.

Purpose & Structure


Charitable Purpose

The purposes of the Society are to: (a) Develop an organizational focus for established and emerging Cantabrian sonic artists with a local, national and international scope; (b) Provide a central city venue for multichannel installation and performance to showcase and nurture Cantabrian sonic arts, attract national and international artists, and facilitate cultural exchange; (c) Collaborate with local, regional and national stakeholders in the re- development of a vibrant Christchurch cultural centre; (d) Support cultural, ethnic and gender diversity and recognize the unique position of Maori custom in the sonic arts; (e) Do anything necessary or helpful to the above purposes.

Entity Structure

The CSSA's managing committee, “The Borderline Ballroom”, is comprised of: (a) The Chair/President; (b) The Vice President; (c) The Secretary; d) The Treasurer; and (e) Committee Members The Borderline Ballroom is responsible for all strategic decisions regarding the CSSA and its Auricle Sonic Arts Gallery operations, as well as overseeing the work of the Auricle Manager who is responsible for the daily operations.
