The New Zealand Rural Games Trust was registered on 18 March 2014 for the purpose of advancing charitable, cultural and heritage purposes through the organisation of an annual event, The NZ Rural Games, that celebrates and promotes to the wider public those heritage sports with their origins in rural communities by providing awards and scholarships to young participants in the rural sector.
