Charitable Purpose

The purpose or mission of our Marae is to provide: - A cultural and traditional learning place where interaction with whānau, hāpu, iwi, and the community is shared and respected. - A place of belonging to return to for life celebrations such as birthdays, weddings and tangihana. - A place to seek identity and whakapapa connections to the marae, hapū and iwi. - A unique experience for non-Māori both physically and spiritually learning and applying Te Ao Māori techniques and skills in this modern world.

Mote Katoa Marae is a marae on Māori Reservation Land. The Māori Reservation Regulations 1994 require that where a reservation is a marae the trustees of the reservation shall draw up, in agreement with the beneficiaries of the marae, a charter for the reservation. A copy of the Mote Katoa Marae charter is published below. This charter is not a part of the formal rules of the marae as required under s17(1)(c) of the Charities Act 2005.
