Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

To raise the profile of and encourage and foster community commitment to the marine reserve; to facilitate the creation of visitor and education facilities at the marine reserve; to ensure the continued protection and restoration of the marine reserve; to educate the general public about the need to conserve and protect marine environments; to assist and work in partnership with the Management Committee and the Department of Conservation or any successor to it with the protection of the marien reserve; to assist people of all ages and all walks of life in gaining access to Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve so they can experience the variety of animals and plant life in marine reserves; to assist in the facilitation of research and education within Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve.

Entity Structure

The number of trustees shall not be less than three or more than seven. As at 31 March 2021 the trust includes three trustees, Murray Palmer, Jason Love and Tataioterangi Kutia. No decisions are made without a mutual agreement from these three standing trustees. A strong relationship stands with the Department of Conservation where either Sandra Groves or Trudi Ngawhare, conservation rangers, are present at the trusts meetings.
