Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Darfield Playcentre is a thriving semi-rural Playcentre. Playcentre philosophy and practice are based on "Whanau Tupu Ngatahi - Families Growing Together". We provide quality early childhood educational sessions for young children (0-6 years) through quality play experiences supported by a high child to adult ratio. We are a parent run Cooperative. We strongly believe parents are the first and best educators and encourage parent participation in the Playcentre Education Programme.

Entity Structure

Darfield Playcentre is a volunteer co-operative managed and governed by the parents of the children who attend our centre. Every family with an enrolled child has a whanau member/parent who is a member of the committee and decisions are made via consensus. Darfield Playcentre is a member of the New Zealand Playcentre Federation who provide support and guidance to our centre and work to ensure compliance requirements are met.
