Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The purposes of Tāhuli 'o e Lomipeau are to: a) To provide a safe learning platform for young, Tongan people in Dunedin to learn traditional performing arts of Tonga; b) To enhance the knowledge of young Tongan children around the significance of Tongan performances, relative to the operation and governance of any Tongan community; AND c) To develop a pipeline that allows young Tongan people to build their cultural capital, without it being at the expense of their unique upbringing in Aotearoa.

Entity Structure

Tāhuli 'o e Lomipeau is an incorporated society. It is governed by a committee consisting of the following members: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Parents' Representative, Community Representative, Staff Representative, Public Relations Officer. Our income is highly dependent on grants - which will pay for workshops that will be run throughout the year. The aim of the workshops are to teach young NZ born Tongans about traditional Tongan language and culture.
