Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

We are a professional unpaid volunteer based organisation that provides a land search and rescue capability for the Eastern Bay Police District. We work in conjunction with the NZ Police SAR squad to provide additional personnel and resources when people are lost or injured in the bush, hills of our Area. We provide a complete Land Search and Rescue service from search parties with SAR specialist skills in the field to Field Headquarters IMT staff for running the search.

Whakatane Land Search and Rescue is run by a Committee consisting of a Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Police liaison, Communications, Training co-ordinator, National GSO, fundraiser, team representative, I.T. support and Data manager. Each position is for two years and then is subject to re-election.
