The general purpose of the Hawaiki TU Arts Foundation is is to shape and inspire the future of Māori performing arts through Ihi, Wehi and Wana and to promote such performing arts to people of all ages and communities, principally in Aotearoa New Zealand but also overseas, through education and performance.

Entity Structure
The Hawaiki TU Arts Foundation is based in Auckland and is governed by its board of trustees which will be incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957.
The board is required to have a minimum of 3 trustees at all times.
The trust deed also provides for the Foundation's kaitiaki to oversee and exercise guardianship over the Foundation and to appoint trustees.
