The Trust was established to provide financial assistance for cancer research, for the establishment, development and operation of the St George's Cancer Facility and for other cancer-related purposes in and around Christchurch. The Trust's principal activity is providing resources and financial assistance in the fulfilment of its charitable purposes.

The Group consists of St George's Hospital Cancer Institute and its wholly owned subsidiary company, Cancer Institute Equipment Trust Limited (the "Group").
