Purpose & Structure


Charitable Purpose

To promote health in New Zealand, by: 1. supporting health research, including by way of providing grants and funding to health researchers and organisations and institutions involved in undertaking such research or disseminating the results of such research; 2. supporting health education, including by way of establishing and providing scholarships and study grants; and 3. supporting health promotion activity for the general public.

Entity Structure

MAS Group trading entities provide financial services including insurance, wealth management, lending solutions and advice to its Members. The MAS Group Parent company is Medical Assurance Society New Zealand Limited, whose voting shares are held on trust for the benefit of MAS Members. MAS Foundation holds the only distribution share in MAS Parent. MAS Foundation receives profits from MAS Group and determines which health initiatives to fund in line with the Group's charitable purpose.
