Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Auckland Playcentres Association Inc (APA) is a not-for-profit umbrella organisation that provides service delivery, support and acts as an agent for 15 Playcentres in Auckland. All of our Playcentres are family/whanau led, licensed early childhood centres. We are a cooperative organisation with strong links to the community. Playcentre is a family organisation where: - we empower adults and children to play, work, learn and grow together - we honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and celebrate people's uniqueness - we value and affirm parents as the first and best educators of their children so that whanau are strengthened and communities enriched.

Entity Structure

APA is managed by an elected Governance Board (GB). We are a cooperative governed by the Playcentres within the organisation, with some governance decision making power sitting within the GB. Except for election of officers, consensus is our primary method of decision making.
