Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Playcentre is a whānau led early learning organisation that provides an empowering environment of whanaungatanga where our whānau and tamariki learn and grow together and parents are supported as first teachers of their tamariki to build stronger communities.

Entity Structure

The Canterbury Playcentre Association offers umbrella support services to the 46 centres in Canterbury and is funded through centre levies. The centres main source of funding is through Ministry of Education bulk funding The centres are managed and governed cooperatively by a centre whānau whom are predominantly in a voluntary capacity. We offer a NZQA recognised adult education programme to prepare and support parents in their role as teachers at Playcentre.
