Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

"Whanau Tupu Ngatahi - Families Growing Together.  Playcentre is for Tamariki/Children,  New Plymouth Playcentre is an Early Childhood Education Service which provides a rich learning environment for children aged 0-6.  Children attend sessions with their parents or caregivers who form a parent co-operative to providing quality educational experiences for the children and day to day management of the Playcentre.  Playcentre is for whanau/families.  The parent co-operative provides support and friendship for all families involved.  Parents receive free education through the Playcentre adult education programme.  Playcentre is for Communities.  The skills learnt by parents attending Playcentre are transferrable to the home environment, other community organisations and the workplace.  The friendships made and skills learn last a life time and strengthen and enrich communities.  Playcentre nationwide have a commitment to biculturalism and honour Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

Entity Structure

Parents and caregivers form the parent co-op at New Plymouth Playcentre.  The parent co-op holds monthly meetings to pass financial payments, receive reports, review policies and procedure, conduct self review and discuss general business.  At the Annual General Meeting all members or the parent co-operative are encouraged to take on a position.  All members are volunteers, committed to providing the best education for tamariki. We are a member of NZ Playcentre Federation.
