Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) was established under the Maniapoto Māori Trust Board Act 1988 (the Act) and the Māori Trust Boards Act 1955. The role and function of the Board has been set down in these Acts and the Board works on behalf of, and represents, the "Maniapoto Tribe". The key functions of the Board is "to administer its assets in accordance with the provisions of the Act for the general benefit of its beneficiaries" and that it may use its financial financial resources for the following: · The provision of health; · The promotion of social and economic welfare; and · The promotion of education and vocational training.

Entity Structure

The MMTB Governance is represented by: 15 Trustees. The 15 comprise of a Te Arikinui representative, a Te Kaumātua Kaunihera representative, 7 Regional Management Committee representatives and 6 generally elected representatives. The MMTB is the coporate trustee for the Maniapoto Fisheries Trust and Te Kupenga o Maniapoto Limited is its Asset Holding Company set up to receive and administer fisheries assets for Ngati Maniapoto.
