Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Pacific Ocean Initiative (POI) is a way for science and communities to improve ocean health through a culture of collaboration and sharing of knowledge. POI provides a pathway for project development and communication between ocean users, knowledge providers and funders, and builds on the willingness of scientists to work together on projects that benefit ocean health. POI projects are developed to fulfil four goals: RESEARCH: Facilitate collaborative and integrated open science. COMMUNICATION: Share, and make widely known, existing knowledge and new research findings. CAPABILITY BUILDING: Promote knowledge uptake, and skills and technology transfer. COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGE: Encourage integration of science and community knowledge, including traditional knowledge.
